This week, I’m taking the conversation about the dark side of spiritual healing a step further and exploring the responsibilities that come with spiritual growth. What happens when you’re being called to evolve, surrender, and trust a path you can’t fully see yet? And why does it sometimes feel like life is pulling you backward before launching you forward?
I share my thoughts on divine timing, free will, emotional healing, and what it really means to let go of old patterns so you can step into a more abundant future. If you’ve been struggling with uncertainty, feeling tested, or wondering whether you’re truly moving in the right direction, this episode offers a perspective that may help you find more peace, faith, and trust in the journey.

Hi everyone, and welcome to the Music of Life. I'm your host, Karen Portnoy. Before I get into this episode, please comment, ask questions, share some of your experiences, and don't forget to subscribe. Hi everyone, welcome back. It's Memorial Day weekend. I hope everyone's enjoying themselves. So, I know last week I was talking about the dark side of spiritual healing, and there is a dark side, and that's it's kind of ironic because the dark side is all about the dark side of ourselves and the shadows that that people don't want to face, and the less optimistic side of their life, and their personality, and all of that. So I want to take it a step further this week, and not just address the dark side, or the shadow side, or I really want to address when you're on a spiritual path and you're doing your spiritual work. There are.. how do I explain this? There are responsibilities that you have as you ascend, as you evolve, as you come into your calling and your purpose in life and your life's path, and all of that. So, you know, the more you ascend, the more responsibility you have spiritually, and the way that I keep seeing it in my spirit, it's like, you know, God is holding a slingshot, right, and in order to propel you forward, God has to pull the slingshot all the way back, right till it almost breaks, which is a metaphor for pulling you back until you know so far until you think you're going to break. God will never let that happen, though. But once he lets go, you know it's like the further back he pulls on the slingshot, the further you're going to propel forward, and a lot of people don't necessarily believe this, you know, because we are in the reality, and we go by months on the calendar and days of the week and minutes in a day, and so we believe that God should be giving us our blessings and our opportunities and miracles on our schedule, except God doesn't work that way, and the spirit realm doesn't work that way. It's, it's all in divine timing, according to when God determines that it's the right time and and what I've come to understand is that God has every piece of your life under control and moves pieces around so that He can optimize your blessings and opportunities
Unknown:and
Caryn Portnoy:all the things that he's got worked out for you in your life, and a lot of people might say, well, then, how come x, y, and z hasn't happened, or how come he allowed x, y, and z, and you know what, do you mean God is in working things out for my highest good, except we all forget one very, very important element here, and it's called free will. So, look, if you surrendered your entire life, every minute of every day of every year of your life, your life would be like perfection, because God is directing it, and He's working it all out, and He wants more for you than you can even dream for yourself, but we get in our own way, and instead of surrendering everything, we kind of pick and choose what we're going to surrender to, and we think we know better, like we're here to control our lives, and the more in control we are, the better off we think we're going to be. It's actually the opposite, though. It's like the more we can surrender, the better off we'll be. But we get in our own way, so we can very easily throw off God's plan for us when we try and intercede, and it comes back to bite us in one way or another. Maybe an opportunity, you know, was going to be like insanely magical for you, and you did something to throw that off somehow, maybe without knowing. And now the, the blessing is kind of like, nah, it's okay. So we don't realize how much we get in our own way, in our own life, when you know miracles and blessings and opportunities are just waiting for us to allow them in. So, if we're able to unblock those things and get out of our own way, you'd be shocked to see what great things can flow into your life. Hey, I just want to take a minute and tell you. Out the divorce mentorship program that I created, it's called Becoming Whole Again, and I created it mostly for women who were either considering divorcing their toxic spouse, or they're in the middle of a toxic divorce, or they're on the other side of a toxic divorce, at any stage that you're dealing with the emotional fallout from a horrific toxic divorce, you know what I mean, the text, the triggers, the berating, the harassment, the threats, all those things. I've been there, and I know what you're going through. This isn't therapy, I promise. This is real hands-on support from somebody who has been where you are, I survived it, I thrived from it, and I've actually transformed from it. And along the way, I've gained so much wisdom from a spiritual healing journey that I am so happy to share with you and help you. It's not about fixing you, it's not about telling you what to do, it's about guiding you and guiding you back to yourself. There are so many people out there who need this. I promise you, I hear from them daily. Thank you for your support, and thank you for listening. Okay, now back
Unknown:to the show, you
Caryn Portnoy:So me personally, I feel like God has pulled me back of the slingshot as far back as He can, and the only where left to go right now is forward, so I'm at the crux of like really, really letting go of my old life, like I've done so much work to do it, but like there's always residual debris that has to get cleared out, or emotional work, or you know, things pop up right when you think you've released it, and now you're like, oh shit, you know what, do I do now, you got to just keep releasing it, you know, so I've been doing a lot of emotional work for a bit of time now, and it's been draining, it's been exhausting, it's been cleansing, and just when I think that I've, you know, broken a pattern or released a block or something like that, there's there's a test that comes right behind it, just to make sure that I actually did that stuff. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But I'm actively now straight ahead, looking forward into my new life. I know the steps that I need to take in order to move things along, and to show God that I'm serious about moving forward and not looking back over my shoulder and entertaining old thought patterns or behaviors that might creep up on me, and you know it is very scary to look at the unknown, and Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz didn't see the yellow brick road until it appeared, but she had to take steps forward for herself, you know, to be able to see it in front of her, and so I'm at the beginning of the yellow brick road, having no idea where things are going and what's to come, but I only know for a fact, sure as I'm standing here right now, I know beyond the shadow of a doubt that what's ahead of me is going to be so much better than what the hell is behind me, and that's all I need to know. Then I can trust God to lead me, because I know that where I'm going is where I'm meant to go, where I'm supposed to go, the most abundant life that I've ever imagined, and so much more,
Unknown:I so this
Caryn Portnoy:is what I mean about surrendering and trusting and having faith, because I couldn't dream up where I'm going now, and I know in my bones that God is directing me forward in the way that He wants my life to look, which is going to be magical. And let's look back in a year from now and see where I came from and where I am then. And I have no doubt that I will be blown away by what's ahead. So anyway, I don't know if this is anything that you ever think about, but this is all stuff I think about, so I'm sharing it and hoping that it lands on some of you, because it's the difference between going through your life with stress and anxiety and angst, or you know, being scared of the unknown, but trusting that it's going to lead you where you ultimately will be, and happily, that kind of alleviates a lot of the stress and the anxiety, because you're trusting the one who made you, you know, who made the world, who made all the animals, and you know it's like, why wouldn't he. Want the most for you, the best for you, the most abundance, the most. I can't stress it enough. So I'm choosing to go forward, and I'm choosing to go forward happily and surrendered and peacefully, and that's just me. But I'm highly recommending that to anybody who's not really sure which way to go. Anyway, I'm gonna wrap it up now. Thank you for being here. Thank you for listening, and your support always. And hope you have a great week, and I'll see you next week. Take care. Please join me every Thursday for a new episode. You can reach me on my website, which is podpage.com/the Music of Life.
